DeWalt Atomic Bandsaw (The Conduit King)

If you are an electrician or commercial plumber, 90% of your cuts are on materials smaller than 2 inches: Unistrut, 3/4″ EMT conduit, and threaded rod.

Using a massive 15lb “Deep Cut” bandsaw for these tiny cuts is like using a sledgehammer to hang a picture frame. It hurts your shoulders and takes up too much space in the lift.

Enter the DeWalt Atomic 20V MAX Bandsaw (DCS377).

This tool proves that “smaller” is sometimes better. It is designed for one specific purpose: One-handed overhead cutting.

The “One Thing” (The Hook)

True One-Handed Operation. Most portable bandsaws claim to be “compact,” but you still need two hands to steady them. The DeWalt Atomic weighs just 6.6 lbs and is balanced perfectly to be used with a single hand.

  • The Result: You can hold a stick of conduit against the ceiling with your left hand and slice through it with your right hand. It turns a two-man job into a one-man job.

The Good

  • Zero Sparks, Zero Burrs: Unlike an angle grinder (which throws sparks everywhere) or a Sawzall (which leaves jagged edges), this bandsaw leaves a smooth, cold finish. You can thread a nut onto a threaded rod immediately after cutting it.
  • Variable Speed Dial: It isn’t just a trigger. It has a dedicated dial to dial in the Speed Feet Per Minute (SFPM) from 150 to 380. This lets you slow it down for stainless steel strut so you don’t burn up the blade.
  • The Integrated Hook: It has a metal rafter hook that folds out. When you are up on a lift, you can hang the saw on the rail instead of putting it on the floor where you’ll trip over it.

The Bad (The #1 Complaint)

The 1-3/4″ Cut Capacity Limit. This tool is strictly for small diameter materials.

  • The Limit: It maxes out at 1-3/4 inches. It cannot cut 2-inch PVC or 2-inch black iron pipe in a single pass.
  • The Risk: If you force it onto a pipe that is too big, the blade can wander and cut into the plastic guard housing. We have seen reports of users ruining the guard on day one by being too aggressive.

Note: Some users also report it feels “gutless” on heavy solid materials compared to the larger 20V XR bandsaws. Stick to hollow conduit and strut.

The Verdict

Who is this for?

  • Buy it if: You are an Electrician or Commercial Plumber. If you live in a world of EMT, Strut, and All-Thread, this is the most convenient tool you will ever own. It saves your shoulders during overhead work.
  • Skip it if: You are a General Contractor or Demolition Crew. If you need to cut 2-inch pipe, heavy rebar, or thick wood, this saw is too small. Buy the DeWalt DCS371 or the Deep Cut DCS374 instead.
