For decades, battery-powered leaf blowers were a joke. They were “sweepers” for clearing dry grass off a driveway. If you had wet leaves, pine needles, or heavy debris, you needed a gas backpack blower.
The EGO Power+ 765 CFM (LB7654) ended that debate.
It is currently the flagship of the EGO handheld line. It claims to be more powerful than premium gas handheld blowers. But is it actually a “Gas Killer,” or just a really strong toy?
Here is the truth about the Green Machine.
The “One Thing” (The Hook)
The “Turbo” Button (26 Newtons of Force). Most blowers have a trigger. You pull it, air comes out. EGO added a “Turbo” button that acts like nitrous oxide in a car.
- Normal Mode: It runs quietly and efficiently, clearing sidewalks easily.
- Turbo Mode: When you hold this button, the motor overclocks to push 765 CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) at 200 MPH.
- The Result: It delivers 26 Newtons of blowing force. This isn’t just a number; it is physically stronger than many handheld gas blowers. It lifts wet, matted leaves and even small rocks out of garden beds.
The Good
- The Battery (56V ARC Lithium): EGO’s “Secret Sauce” is their battery tech. The unique arc shape keeps the cells cool, preventing them from overheating even when you push the tool hard. Best of all, this same battery fits their Lawnmower, String Trimmer, and Chainsaw.
- Variable Speed Dial: It features a “Cruise Control” dial on the side. You can lock it at 40% power to gently clear flower beds without blasting the mulch away, saving your thumb from fatigue.
- Quiet Operation: Unlike a screaming 2-stroke gas engine that wakes up the neighborhood, the EGO emits a low-pitched hum (64 dB). You can use it at 8:00 AM on a Sunday without your neighbors hating you.
The Bad (The #1 Complaint)
It is heavy (and hungry). Physics is physics. To get gas power, you need a big motor and a big battery.
- The Weight: With the included 5.0Ah battery, this unit weighs nearly 10 lbs. That is heavy for a handheld tool. After 15 minutes, your forearm will be burning. We highly recommend using the included shoulder strap.
- The Runtime: If you hold the “Turbo” button down constantly, the battery will die in about 13-17 minutes. You cannot run it full-blast for an hour like a gas blower. You have to be strategic with your power usage.
The Verdict
Who is this for?
- Buy it if: You are a Homeowner who is done with gas. No mixing fuel, no carburetor cleaning, no pull cords. You snap the battery in and go. It is powerful enough for 95% of residential yards.
- Skip it if: You are a Pro Landscaper clearing massive properties. The 15-minute runtime on Turbo isn’t enough for commercial work unless you have 10 spare batteries. Stick to a Gas Backpack blower for all-day leaf season.
